JULY 10 FIRING

These are all new glazes worked on for many months. So far over 500 tests have been run and now to learn to use the results. It's a large learning curve but I am intrigued by the possibilities. After 45 years of reduction firing in gas kilns to get the copper reds, celadons, and Temmokus, I am now firing oxidation in an electric kiln which offers a whole new palette of colors and textures. It is the visual and physical textures that intrigue me the most right now.
A word first about Oilspot.
Oilspot glazes are known in Japan as Yuteki Tenmoku. There are many glazes in the Tenmoku (Temmoku) family that run from shiny black breaking to rust red; to Hare's Fur, to Yuteki Oilspot, to Partridge Feathers. Oilspot was started in China and it is thought to have gotten to Japan in the Muromachi period (1338-1573) according to Japan Times. The glaze has been valued for centuries by masters of the tea ceremony. It is said that dedicated potters of the Song Dynasty (12th and 13th centuries) made oilspot for the emperors and intellectuals. I will be pursuing this elusive glaze for some time to come. These photos do not do these pots justice, I apologize, but I am not a photographer, I am a potter. I would say every pot is far better in real life, especially in the sun. If you have any questions, please email or call me. Pots are subject to availability and as usual, I offer free shipping within the United States. Email or call with the numbers of those you are interested in and I will get right back to you.

All dimensions are height and width in inches, and all pots are made of "Turner Porcelain"
