JULY 08 FIRING
July 2008 Firing- This firing represents 2 1/2 years here at Turner Lane and the 30th firing. I am delighted with these pots! I am not a photographer and I am pushing my Kodak Brownie to the hilt, but the new super close-ups help to show you what is going on with these glazes and multiple firings. Remember, the pots are greater than the photos. Lastly, a note on crazing. The close ups reveal the crazing and it looks like cracks. Crazing happens when the glaze shrinks more than the body in cooling. The glaze is cracked, not the pots. Oriental potters stain the cracks and call it "crackle". The reds are prone to crazing and I accept it when I get such incredible color. I have adjusted my new batch of porcelain to help reduce this crazing and it arrived yesterday.
